FAQs

What is a Beta Bunny tester?
Our testers are a select number of people who volunteer to use and explore new web tools, software or applications that they like the look of. Theses ‘bunnies’ are not techies – they are everyday web users. They simply look at the product and feed back if/when they discover problems or glitches, or if they just have a comment to make about it.

Beta testing is a common stage of technology testing that takes place before a product goes public. Read more on Wikipedia

What is a typical Beta Bunny project?
Our projects vary, but we never get involved with anything boring or overly technical.

We are not interested in recruiting techies. Most likely the projects will involve exciting new social or communication tools that will eventually be used by everyone in the mainstream.

How much of my time is involved?
As much as you want to commit.

Most projects require a very basic, minimal level of involvement to start – maybe just filling in a form or registering some details.

From then on it is about you and how much time you want to commit.

How do you collect my findings?
We don’t hassle you all the time with questions and surveys. Instead we provide a forum where you can volunteer your findings as and when you have them.

The forum is also a good place to find out about other things happening on the Beta Bunny grapevine.

How long is a Beta Bunny project?
One project is likely to last weeks. We are unlikely to have more than one or two projects on the go at a time.

If you want to be sure of being involved with something, sign up every time you are invited.

We’ll email you with details of new projects and see if you want to take part.

Who are Beta Bunny and do you get paid?
We are a small team of volunteers who love this stuff – the same as you.

Beta Bunny is run on a not-for-profit basis and out aim is to help, encourage and support entrepreneurs who have new ideas for the web but do not necessarily have the corporate budgets to get them tested.

However, we don’t help everybody. We only choose to work on selective projects that interest and excite us.

Each client makes a donation to cover our administrative costs and they provide a significant range of prizes or rewards that we can pass on to Beta Bunnies who give the most time and effort. Our long term aim is to build a donation kitty that can be re-invested into the Beta Bunny community, whether it be improved facilities, some tasty giveaways or a bling-drizelled free party.

If you’d like to donate, email us via the ‘hello’ address (see our home page header above) and put the word ‘donation’ in the subject box.

Do I get paid?
No, like us you do it because you are interested. However, every now and then people do give us freebies or promos to give away to our testers. And of course every tester has a chance to win a prize if they are among the most involved. Projects are run very transparently, so you can see who deserves to win each time.

Why is this opportunity only open to UK students?
The very nature of beta testing is that it is utilises a limited, select group of people. We have chosen to work exclusively with UK students.

We chose students because:

> Students are traditionally opinion-formers and early adopters, open to new ideas and responsive;

> They are intelligent, interested and able to critique;

> They are heavy online users, familiar with web navigation and practice;

> They are good at voicing opinions.

How safe is my email address?
Totally. We will NEVER give your address to anyone else. Every email we send you will include the subject ‘Beta Bunny’ in the title so you know it’s us.

How can I get my other questions answered?
If there’s something we’ve missed, email us at the address in our banner above and we’ll get back as soon as we can.

Thanks for your interest :-)
